Planning a Jersey Shore vacation or considering buying a shore property? While Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest share the same barrier island, each offers a different experience when it comes to beaches, attractions, vacation rentals, and real estate.
Here's what makes each community different and what you should know before booking a vacation or purchasing a property.
Wildwood, NJ: The Boardwalk and Entertainment
Wildwood is the center of much of the island's summer activity. It's home to Morey's Piers, water parks, restaurants, shops, and a large portion of the famous Wildwoods Boardwalk, which was voted America's Best Boardwalk in USA Today's 2026 10Best Readers' Choice Awards.
You'll also find the Wildwoods Convention Center, Byrne Plaza, and classic Doo Wop architecture throughout town.
Wildwood offers a wide variety of condominiums, duplexes, single-family homes, and vacation rentals. For visitors interested in boardwalk attractions, dining, and entertainment, there are plenty of options throughout the city.
North Wildwood, NJ: Beaches, Lighthouse, and Nightlife
North Wildwood begins at 26th Avenue and extends to the island's northern tip. It's known for the historic Hereford Inlet Lighthouse, the North Wildwood seawall, and the Anglesea neighborhood.
Olde New Jersey Avenue features restaurants, bars, and entertainment, while the southern portion of North Wildwood provides access to the boardwalk.
North Wildwood offers everything from oceanfront condominiums to townhomes and single-family residences, along with a substantial vacation rental market.
Wildwood Crest, NJ: Expansive Beaches and Ocean Views
Wildwood Crest begins at Cresse Avenue and extends south toward Diamond Beach. Unlike Wildwood and North Wildwood, the Crest doesn't have amusement piers or a traditional commercial boardwalk.
Instead, visitors will find expansive beaches, a beachfront recreational path, parks, and oceanfront accommodations. Sunset Lake is another popular attraction, particularly for its evening views.
Wildwood Crest is also a dry municipality, meaning alcohol cannot be sold within its boundaries. Public alcohol consumption is restricted, including on beaches and in parks.
The Crest offers numerous oceanfront condominiums, residential properties, and vacation rentals for visitors who prefer spending more time at the beach or enjoying the island at a different pace.
What About Diamond Beach and West Wildwood?
Diamond Beach, located just south of Wildwood Crest, is part of Lower Township. It's known for oceanfront condominiums, resorts, and sections of privately controlled beachfront.
West Wildwood is a separate borough located on a small back-bay island connected to Wildwood by a bridge. It offers residential properties, marinas, and access to the bay.
Which Wildwood Is Best for Buying a Shore Property?
That depends on your priorities. Some buyers focus on boardwalk proximity, while others are interested in ocean views, boating access, condominium amenities, or vacation rental potential.
Wildwood and North Wildwood offer numerous properties near entertainment and attractions. Wildwood Crest has a substantial selection of oceanfront condominiums, while West Wildwood offers opportunities near the back bay.
If you're purchasing an investment property, consider local rental regulations, condominium association restrictions, operating expenses, and rental history before making a decision.
At Lees Real Estate Agency, we handle both real estate sales and vacation rentals, giving buyers access to local knowledge and rental market experience.
